Stefan works across the stack and holds the line on what ships. Interfaces that stay responsive and accessible when real people use them on real devices, performance that holds up once the data set stops being a demo, and code the next engineer can read without booking a handover call.

He built the Compliance Scorecard, the free assessment tool at labs.oktopeak.com that scores a firm against the controls it is supposed to have in place. It is a small product rather than a marketing page, and it gets used by people who have never spoken to us.

The unglamorous half of his job is review. Someone has to be the person who says a component is not accessible yet, or that a query will fall over at ten times the row count, before a client finds out instead. On a seven-person team with no QA department, that has to be an engineer with the standing to push back, and it is usually Stefan.
