[ THE CHALLENGE ]

CME is a checkbox,
not learning

A medical education company came to us because doctors treat continuing education as compliance paperwork. The content is scattered, the format is passive, and the credit tracking is manual. See how we approach healthcare software builds.

Scattered learning resources

Medical literature is fragmented across journals, PDFs, and websites. No single platform aggregates credible CME-eligible content, so time goes to hunting for approved material instead of learning.

Engagement crisis

Traditional CME is passive reading. Retention from lecture-style content is low, and there is no motivation to finish required credits beyond the compliance deadline.

Administrative burden

Tracking credits by hand is tedious. There are verification gaps when proving content came from peer-reviewed sources, and the paper trail for audits ends up disorganized.

Time constraints

Busy professionals cannot dedicate hours to traditional CME courses. They need bite-sized learning that fits between patients.

[ THE SOLUTION ]

Any medical content becomes an interactive quiz

We built the platform around three layers: an AI content engine that turns documents into quizzes, a verification and credit layer that decides what counts toward CME, and a gamification system that keeps people coming back. Our approach to healthcare AI integration puts the compliance boundary around the model, not next to it.

CME Platform · AI Content Engine

Upload a PDF, paste text, or link PubMed — the AI generates a configured quiz (demo data).

01

AI Content Engine

Upload a PDF, paste text, or link a PubMed article. The OpenAI API generates a quiz from it, configured to the learner.

  • Quiz generation from PDF, text, URL, or audio
  • Configurable difficulty, question type, question count
  • Document chat: AI Q&A against the uploaded source
  • AI study plan generator by specialty and goals
  • Throttled AI actions to control cost and load
CME Platform · Verification & Credit
Verification and CME credit screen showing demo PMID/DOI checks and automatic credit accumulation
Credits only come from verified sources — every check is written to an audit table (demo data).

02

Verification & CME Credit

Credits only come from verified sources. PubMed import checks PMID and DOI, and every check is written to an audit table.

  • Direct import from PubMed Central
  • Automatic PMID / DOI verification
  • Passing a quiz at 60%+ from a verified article earns credit
  • Automatic credit accumulation and tracking
  • Credential check: license number and specialization
CME Platform · Gamification
Gamification screen showing a demo streak counter, achievement tiers, and a leaderboard
Streaks, achievements, missions, and a virtual currency, tuned for ten spare minutes (demo data).

03

Gamification Layer

Streaks, achievements, missions, and a virtual currency, tuned for professionals with ten spare minutes.

  • Daily streaks (current and longest)
  • 6 achievement types across Bronze / Silver / Gold tiers
  • Weekly and daily missions with rewards
  • Leaderboards for quizzes, rewards, and CME credits
  • Ruby virtual currency redeemable in a marketplace

[ COMPLIANCE ]

HIPAA-ready architecture, not a bolt-on

An education platform that issues CME credits has to survive an accreditation review. Verification, encryption, and access control were constraints from the first sprint.

Content verification

PubMed API validation with a full audit trail written to a dedicated verification log table.

Data encryption

AES-256-CBC encryption applied to sensitive stored data.

Secure file access

Documents served through signed URLs with a 10-minute expiry. No permanent public links.

Access control

Role-based middleware with the admin dashboard separated from learner surfaces.

Rate limiting

NCBI requests capped at 10 per second, AI actions throttled, keeping third-party usage inside policy.

Authentication

Email verification required on signup, with Google OAuth and Laravel Sanctum sessions.

[ WHAT SHIPPED ]

A complete product in 12 weeks

9 Screens

End-to-end product

Dashboard, upload flow, quiz setup, quiz play, results, achievements, marketplace, leaderboard, and profile.

5 Formats

Content import

PDF, pasted text, URL, audio, and direct PubMed import, all feeding the same quiz generation pipeline.

4 Tiers

Subscription model

Free, Basic, Professional, and Premium, built on Stripe via Laravel Cashier with tier-based feature gating and reward earning caps.

Audit Trail

Accreditation-ready

Every PubMed verification is logged, so the source of any issued CME credit can be traced back to a PMID.

Delivery status

The build is at its final milestone. Public launch is pending the client's CME credentialing approval, which sits with the accrediting body and not with the software. No post-launch usage numbers exist yet, so we are not publishing any. What we can show is the delivered scope above, the 12-week timeline, and the compliance architecture.

★★★★★

“Everything was done professionally, with efficient and fast communication, unconditional availability, kindness and professionalism.”

[ FAQ ]

AI CME Learning Platform — frequently asked

This platform was 12 weeks, kickoff to final milestone, for the full scope described here: the AI content engine, verification and credit tracking, and the gamification layer. A narrower first release (skip gamification, for example) moves faster.
This build was $20,000 for the full 12-week scope. Cost scales with scope, so every engagement still gets its own quote — but this is a real number from a real delivered project, not a placeholder range.
AES-256-CBC encryption on sensitive stored data, documents served through signed URLs with a 10-minute expiry, role-based access separating admin from learner surfaces, and rate-limited third-party calls. HIPAA-ready architecture from the first sprint, not a bolt-on.
You do — full source, no licensing fees, no vendor lock-in.
Yes. This build shipped the content engine, verification/credit tracking, and gamification together, but a first release can ship just the content engine and credit tracking, with gamification added once the core loop is proven.
